I’M BACK IN THE SEWING ROOM

lots of fun things happening in the sewing room! there’s shows coming up,Raggedies, Santa's & snowmen oh my!Christmas swap, quilts to be made,but most important that drum roll! lol!

MY HEART IS HEAVY

 

we lost our  sweet little Shilo early this morning, he was one of five sweet little Chihuahuas to our sweet peaches  whom we lost  back last Fall

our pets are here for just a short time to give us joy & comfort but when death comes un expectantly, the pain can seem unbearable, he was fine as can be then all of a sudden he had no appetite, early yesterday evening he began to have pains & shortness of breath , Gus & Joe still cry for him as they go all over the house looking for him, they don’t want me out of their sight & even though they are here in my lap the house seems empty 

  everywhere I was ,Shilo was ,in the recliner everyday at 2:00 watching our Walton's,which I couldn’t bare to sit in today, if I was sewing he’s be right there under the window soaking up sunshine,sometimes in my lap,he would be in my lap now watching me work on the computer yes this is their heater & they know it! Terry is getting ready to go out of town this weekend, he hasn't even left yet & already I can’t wait for him to get home , it will be  a long week & I’ll just have to keep myself busy

PREP WORK IS DONE!

day two in the sewing room turned out to be quite productive,can you believe we’re going into the seventh week for the Great Granny Along ?

today has been a productive day, I finally got time to get back to my quilt blocks, I think I was supposed to add the outer blocks then sew together but anyways I’m bringing up the rear lol! one down & eight to go

I got all the outer blocks cut out today,  I had made nine blocks, with one completed & eight to go so I cut out (96) 2 1/2 x 3 1/2

(32) 2 1/2 x 5

whoa 128 but it’ll be worth it tomorrow as I tie into getting all my blocks done, well as many as I can lol!

& I managed to cut (14) green 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 from the scraps to add to my block box, as it grows I will add tabs & stand them up, it’s looking sooo cute! lol!

APRON BLOOPERS

  every once in  a while fabric will have a slight stretch to it, don’t be tempted to stretch it! lol, I cut the ruffle to my apron just a tad too short & noticed the fabric had some give to it, yea I did! boy did I!

so I thought well I can fix that, so I cut out a triangle to go in the hole, no! no! no! it puckered & made a mess, took it all out & went to plan B

I cut 2 strips,humm how will this work

it worked! yippee thank goodness that’s over! lol! it is at the end ,so it will be in the back & it’s just for me so it’s ok but boy am I glad that’s over lol

 

now for the sides, neck straps & ties but with all this excitement, I shall think about that tomorrow lol! if you do any quilting , you know how time consuming cutting out squares can be, so   decided to cut out  some 2 & 1/2” squares from the scraps & came up with 14 squares, they’ll come in handy somewhere down the road of quilting

with all the goings on, do I really need to make one of these ? I think I do lol tonight is the last night of our Revival at church & this coming week hubby will be on the 3-11 shift, my big plans are to pull my own 3-11 shift in the sewing room ,I can’t wait to see what happens lol!

This week there seems to be so much to do, I have not had time to look at fabric much less buy any, that’s a good thing , right? lol! anyways, Revivals keeping me pretty busy, going over  the music with our keyboardist, speaking of music, I’ve got to get up  a few specials for tonight & tomorrow night, so far the calendar looks clear for next week, shhhhh! don’t say that out loud because there’s “sew” much to do! lol!

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON’T BUY FABRIC

 

Is this you? how long can you go without buying fabric , maybe you need it, maybe it just needs to go into the collection, maybe it just called you, as I’m working on two quilt challenges, yes I said two lol! & finishing up odd & ends in the sewing room, all those UFO’s, there’s 30  ornies for a Christmas ornie swap  due in Oct. for  a craft forum I belong to I’ve thought ok no more fabric till I get all my projects done, I have looked & touched fabric several times this week & not bought any, not sure how long before the withdrawals kick in & I  go into this stage lol!

I’ll be busy with Revival this week so that’ll keep me out  of the stores, or will it? lol!I have plenty of projects in the sewing room to keep  me busy for a while, sooooo deep breath &

WHY DIDN’T SOMEBODY STOP ME!

 

as I finish the last block, I am now ready for the outer edges, so I go back & re read the instructions, humm how many times have I read & re read these, apparently not enough lol! I look over at my rabbits, they look as though they knew lol,

now here’s the kicker lol! the side strips are to be added before you sew the rows together, you can tell I didn’t do that lol! 

I started with the seam ripper, bad idea! it was tearing my blocks & there was no more matching squares left sooooo I proceed to add the strips to the sides having to twist & turn so’s it wouldn’t pucker, it’s working but taking longer, this made me have to re think sizing it up making sure all the edges & corners come out even, whew! finally I got one block edged, I’m not sure if it’s right but I’m happy with it lol!

JUST TWO MORE BLOCKS!

  How many blocks to make a cozy throw size quilt, you know the blankets we cuddle with on the couch lol! I first thought  maybe four? then I saw someone make six for a lap size, then I saw nine , then twelve,mercy when will it stop? lol! so i got all my squares out, & proceeded to start arranging a pattern & made the decision to do nine for my quilt

the granny square block consist of rows of  1 (baby) 4, 8 & 12 , I only had 3 prints left with a count of 12, so I had to be careful if I took of one of the piles of 12 would I like the color combination of the 12 that were left, this this block was born

that gives me a total of  8 blocks, one to go!I had enough to come up with  2 combinations, don’t you just hate decisions, especially when you like them both lol!

so there’s now 8 blocks waiting for their outer strip, making them a 12” block then on to the side strips, batting, & lining ,ohhhh I’m so close! lol!

I think I  will go with this one  for block number 9

I’ve still got the other quilt to cut out for the quilt along over at quilter In The Gap’s 3rd quarter  2012.

there’s so much happening in the sewing room  in between all the business,I’m putting together odds & ends, getting ready to create my window treatments, speaking of busy! there’s a lady at church who has a cousin who is an interior seamstress, her sewing room is an enclosed garage that is one big room, well long story short she has stuff & totes to the ceiling & guess what! she has asked me to come & design her sewing room! oh happy day to work in such a big area, in the months to come I will pick up  Ms. Faye & we will head over to her cousins, there has already been talk that this may be a spend a night project lol! I will go in the next few weeks to take before pictures
